GET A GRIP
Handlebars are among the most common components of a motorcycle that owners change.
Some riders even change bars before taking delivery of a new bike from the Dealer.
Handlebars play a role in everything from handling, comfort to the style the customer is looking for.
Here are a few things to look for when choosing a handlebar manufacturer.
1. Do they feel solid or flimsy?
2. If they're welded, how do the welds look?
3. Are there any sharp edges at the wire holes?
4. Are the bends smooth and flowing, or choppy and rippled?
5. Is the finish clean and consistent, or does it have blemishes or chips?
It doesn't take an expert to answer these questions.
First thing we concentrate on is the construction of our handlebars, (for obvious reasons).

The bitter taste of poor quality lingers long after the sweet taste of low price is forgotten.

Check out how our bars are manufactured HERE!

The next thing is fitment.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF DIFFERENT STYLES OF BARS MOUNTED
ON A SOFTAIL® WITH A LOW SEAT
RIDER IS 5'10"

DRAG BARS

WO500 - 6" Chubby® Drag Bar shown here.
6" rise, 30.5" wide, 10.5" Pullback

WO511 Chubby® Dragster bars shown here.
0" rise, 30.5" wide, 6" Pullback
This is for example purposes only.
Short risers used. This cannot be done
because controls will hit the gas tank.

Most drag bars are designed for an aggressive feel.
When looking at drag bars, keep in mind the bars with risers welded to the top bar are not adjustable.
If you think you may wish to adjust the bars, get a drag bar that bolts to separate risers and top clamp.

 CONVENTIONAL BARS

Conventional bars are basically the most common bars used to keep the stock style look.
The less pullback, the more you will have to reach to grip the bars.

WO503 Chubby® Knuckle Bar shown here.
36.5" wide, 8.5" pullback
Not much pullback, but a classic look.

WO518 Chubby® RK II Bar shown here.
5.5" rise, 35.5" wide, 14.25" Pullback.
Good pullback and decent wrist angle.

WO550 Chubby® Beach Bar shown here.
3.5" rise, 36" wide, 15" Pullback.
Similar to WO518 but lower with smoother bends.

Conventional bars good for the rider that wishes to keep the bike low and squatty.

APE HANGERS

Ape hangers are a different breed of handlebar.
These are always based on a personal preference.
For instance, I have a few friends that swear by them and I don't particularly care for them.
Some states have strict rules regarding height standards.
Check local laws in your state here.
Seat height will definitely change the height of the bars in relation to the shoulders.
They can be rotated forward and back which change the height as noted below.

WO502 Chubby® 12.5" Ape Hanger shown here in line with the front forks.
36.5" wide, 12" Pullback
All of our pullback measurements are done with the bars in line with the front forks.
The taller the bar, the more pullback.
*Don't mistake pullback for wrist angle*
Wrist angle is explained below.

WO502 Chubby® 12.5" Ape Hanger shown here pushed forward.
The top section of all our apes do not droop down.
When mounted straight up and down, the grip section is parallel with the ground.

 WRIST ANGLE

Wrist angle is how combining width and pullback effect the wrist angle.
Narrow bars with a lot of pullback tend to twist the wrists outward.
If you are shorter, you will want more pullback with less width.
If you are taller, you will want less pullback and more width.

This person is 6' tall.

WO508 Chubby® RK Bar.
32.5" wide, 16" pullback with 68° grip angle.
Recommended for people under 5'9".

 WO518 Chubby® RK II.
35.5" wide, 14.25" pullback with 60° grip angle.
Recommended for people over 5'9".

WO509-16" Chubby Ape.
37" wide, 12.5" pullback with 42° grip angle.
All our standard apes have the same wrist angle.

WO612-12" Chubby® Outlaw'z'.
33.5" wide, 8" pullback with 22° wrist angle.

Notice the wrist angle on WO509 and WO612 look similar.
The Wider the bar, the more degree of wrist angle you can
have to remain comfortable.
